How to Find What’s Missing in Life Through Simplicity

Busy, busy, busy…
Run, run, run…
Walk fast, walk fast…
Check to-do lists…
Check emails, Facebook, calendars…
Clean this, organize that, repeat…
Go here, go there, go everywhere…

Whoa! Stop and slow the frick down!

Does this sound familiar?

This was me prior to living simply. Yes, I sounded like a wild woman on the edge of crazy. Maybe I was, but I certainly wasn’t the wild type that was the life of the party.

I was always in a hurry and it felt like a tidal wave of life’s happenings were engulfing me and I was constantly trying to grip for the shore. I wanted to get back to the person I enjoyed being, but I was either too busy or I avoided acknowledging that a change was needed.

I wasn’t focused enough on the important things – appreciating what I have, living a fuller life, and removing the things that didn’t contribute to that. I wasn’t fully satisfied because it felt like something was missing, but I couldn’t quite figure it out.

What’s the answer to finding the missing piece? For me it was…

Simplifying.

Simplify what you say? Simplify life by simplifying tasks, simplifying thoughts, simplifying schedules, simplifying everything possible. It’s time to slow down and focus on whatever is most precious in life.

I needed to stop the crazy, unfulfilled lifestyle and go into calm, cool, collected, and happier mode, so that everyone around me, and especially myself, can get the best version of me.

I’m editing life by shedding the things that don’t contribute to greater peace, joy, and happiness. Removing whatever I found unnecessary in life brought forth the missing pieces I was looking for – creativity, passion, freedom, focus, more love, and I could go on…

I’m the happiest I’ve ever been and its because simple living has helped me see what I’ve been missing out on. What I thought was missing was there the whole time. I just had to remove what was covering it up – too much stuff, too much busyness, and too much distraction.

It’s important to look inward instead of outward for what we want. Keeping too many things and having too many distractions never fill the void. It keeps us from getting to the happier place we desire and deserve.

Now that I’ve simplified, life is more like –

Walk slow, walk slow…
Sit calmly…
Take a deep breath, let it out…
Be present, be mindful…
Embrace silence…
Clean this, organize that, repeat less often…
Go with my heart, go with peace, go with joy…

Of course, there is still some craziness in the mix because that’s what life gives us sometimes. It’s a matter of responding to the craze in our best way. Simplicity has helped me handle the tough times more easily because I’m more at peace, more calm, and more focused.

If life is too hectic or if you’re feeling wild on the edge of crazy (and not in a good way), then try to simplify. Say “no thank you” to the things that don’t bring joy and say “yes!” to pursuing the life you want. See what you can find with simplicity.

  1. this is something i’m trying to achieve, but everything is so wild i don’t even know where to start, or to see if anything is really changing. thank you for the article, let’s find that calm inside. <3

    1. Nícia – thank you for reading the post and for your comment! I agree, it can be a challenge when life is wild. What helps me start a goal is to keep it small, simple, and realistic. Then I make a note of the goal, so I can reflect and decide if changes are happening or if I need to adjust the goal. I hope this helps you take a step towards your achievement. And yes, let’s find the calm inside. 🙂
